The Clever Wife of the 1960s Chapter 26 (Part 4)
Chapter 26 (Part 4)
"Okay, okay, I've given them all to you. I don't have any more." He took out a stack from another drawer, and there were quite a few.
Chen Rou was satisfied then. After accepting it, she thanked him and left with her son in her arms. She did not feel embarrassed at all during the whole process.
"Are these female comrades so bold nowadays?" said the young doctor, touching his nose.
Most lesbians wouldn't come to him because they mind that he's a man, but this lesbian wasn't shy at all and went through so many procedures.
"But the child is very pretty." He then asked, should he get married? He wanted a son, but a girl would be good too, provided she was pretty.
You still have to take your time to look for a partner, and find someone who is similar to him. Otherwise, what if he is good-looking but his mother is not, and the child looks like his mother?
Don't be impatient. Don't be impatient.
As for Chen Rou, after getting what she needed, she brought her son to the mall to go shopping.
There wasn't anything good to buy, but since I had come here, I couldn't go there in vain. I went to the black market and took a look. I saw eggs, but they were too expensive.
In the city, an egg costs six cents, and there are about seven eggs in a pound, which works out to a little over 40 cents per pound.
It is cheaper in the countryside, about five cents each, and a pound of eggs is just over thirty cents. But if farmers take them to a purchasing station, they only charge three cents for each egg, so few people take them to a purchasing station.
But the situation on the black market is terrible. A pound of eggs costs 80 cents, which is double the price.
"Don't think it's too expensive. After a while, you may not be able to buy it even if you have money." said the egg seller.
Chen Rou was reluctant to part with it. A pound of eggs cost 80 cents, and that's not how you rob.
"Please give it a lower price. The child needs to eat and he is hungry." Chen Rou said.
"Sister, don't lie to me. Judging from the way my eldest nephew is fed, I can tell that your family background must be good." The young man was immediately happy.
He has never seen such a well-raised child, so what can he bring up?
Chen Rou asked, "Then do you want to try something else?"
"No, I just want money." The young man shook his head.
Chen Rou took out some chocolates from the space, handed them to him from the basket, and whispered, "These are rare good things, with wine fillings, very precious. I asked someone to buy them from the provincial capital last time, but I haven't eaten them yet. Do you want to exchange them?"
"This chocolate is quite expensive." The young man said after a moment's pause.
He could recognize that it was chocolate, imported and very rare.
"Yes, it's precious. I can exchange ten chocolates with liquor filling for a pound of eggs from you. Do you want to trade?" Chen Rou asked.
The young man hesitated for a moment, then said, "I can't make the decision. Can you wait for me to do it?"
"Okay." Chen Rou nodded.
The young man immediately went to ask someone, and soon the man said, "Okay, I'll give you one pound."
Chen Rou exchanged a pound of eggs with him, and then left without staying long.
The young man came over with a beautifully wrapped chocolate with liquor filling and gave it to a young man who was obviously well dressed.
The young man took it, opened it and ate one, saying in amazement, "It's really good."
"Brother, is it really delicious? The woman said she asked someone to buy it from the provincial capital." said the young man.
"It seems I didn't lie. I exchanged a pound of eggs for so many chocolates. I made a profit." The young man said with satisfaction.
Who would have thought that this young man is the ruler of this black street? However, he comes from a good family and has connections, so no one patrols this street.
Chen Rou, who had exchanged a pound of eggs, didn't care about this. She collected some chocolates, but seldom took them out to eat, and it was not convenient to take them out. Moreover, to her, they were just snacks. Although she knew that she would definitely suffer a loss in this exchange.
But it would be better to exchange it for a pound of eggs and eat them at home.
Besides, she still has a lot in her space.
But eggs are scarce. We don't have chickens at home, but we have a goose. The weather is cold and the geese stop laying eggs. Apart from those we have eaten recently, we have only saved five or six goose eggs.
There are still some eggs left in the space, but not many, so since I came across them, I might as well buy some.
After finding a deserted place, she put the watch into her space and continued shopping. After looking around in the mall, she actually wanted to buy a watch for Han Guobin.
But apart from the watch tickets, the key point is that they are extremely expensive, costing hundreds of dollars for a watch.
Even Chen Rou was reluctant to take action.
I looked at it at the counter, but ended up not buying it.
Finally, we came to the supply and marketing cooperative. There were not so many people there, but the fabrics and other things had almost all been sold out. Chen Rou didn't want that, so she just bought some red dates, white sugar, and brown sugar, and a pound of dried kelp. It tasted very good last year, so she bought more this year.
I won’t buy salted fish.
Before noon, Zhou Zhen and a group of other women returned home on a donkey cart.
Little Han Hang was still sleeping until they got home. Chen Rou put him on the kang, covered him with a quilt, and started to go out to get supplies.
This time she also brought back a package, leaving some rice out, as well as eggs and meat.
It's a rare trip to the city, so I got some beef and mutton. Not only did I make delicious food for myself, but I also woke up from a nap in the afternoon, took my son back to my parents' home, and gave them a piece of beef.
There must be a pound of beef.
Chen's mother felt very distressed when she saw this: "Buying meat again and again, is it easy for Guobin to go into the mountains to make some money? He just gave it to you like this, how can you be so careless, I thought you were sensible!"
"I went to the city today and saw a rare beef that didn't require a ticket. I finally bought it and cut a piece for you, Dad and Mom." Chen Rou said helplessly.
"How much?" Chen's mother asked.
"I'm giving you food, don't charge me." Chen Rou waved her hand.
"If you don't want money, take this piece of meat back!" Chen's mother glared.
"It depends on the money." Father Chen nodded.
They appreciate that their daughter is filial, but this is not the way to be filial. When her life gets better, she will be filial to them. But now that they have just established their family and the children are still young, there is no need for that.
Brothers Eldest, Second and Third Chen had no objections. It was such a big piece of meat, especially beef, so they certainly felt embarrassed to eat it for free, so it was normal to charge for it.
The three sisters-in-law didn't think there was anything wrong with giving money, but they couldn't help but feel that Chen Rou, the sister-in-law, was really good at supporting her parents' family, and she was also bold in spending.
From time to time, she would bring a piece of meat to honor her parents. Compared to her, these daughters were really unfilial.
Chen Rou had no choice but to ask for one dollar, but Chen's parents knew that beef was not cheap, especially since no ticket was required. But their daughter said that one dollar was fine, considering it a bargain.
"The last time I sent meat to your uncle, he said he wanted to buy mutton and hadn't found it yet." Chen's mother said again.
"That must have been an unfortunate coincidence for my uncle to go there." Chen Rou said without blushing or panting.
She didn't keep much for herself. After her daughter went back, Chen's mother cut a small piece and gave it to her brother, and kept the rest for herself.
Chen Rou went home and cooked herself some beef porridge. After eating, she washed up and took Han Hang's child to bed.
The next day, she got up before dawn to stew mutton and radish soup. She also kneaded the dough and steamed a pot of steamed buns.
When Han Guobin returned home in the dark in the morning, Chen Rou had already prepared breakfast for him and had hot water ready. It had been a while, so the water was no longer hot, only warm.
"Go wash up, have breakfast, and then go to sleep with your son." Chen Rou said, seeing that he looked thin.
"Okay." Han Guobin also had something to say, but he had to wait until they finished eating.
After washing up and drinking a glass of warm water, I had breakfast: mutton and radish soup with corn buns.
After eating this breakfast, Han Guobin's complexion finally improved.
Chen Rou had almost finished eating and said, "Let's go take a rest first."
Han Guobin smiled and said, "Wife, come in and lie down with your son for a while?"
"I went to bed early last night. You can go in and accompany your son." Chen Rou looked at him with a smile.
Han Guobin went into the room by himself. The temperature was getting colder day by day, so Chen Rou washed his feet with water from the thermos and let him get on the kang.
Han Guobin got on the kang and went over to look at his son. Seeing his son's chubby face sleeping contentedly, his heart softened.
It is certainly not easy to stay in the mountains for a few days, but when he thinks about his wife and children at home who depend on him for a good life, he feels full of motivation and is energetic in doing anything.
Gao Zheng was extremely envious of him. His family was almost out of debt, and now he was just looking forward to getting married, having a child, and living a happy life.
Han Guobin didn't think much about it. He looked at his son and went to sleep. After all, he was really tired.
